A symbol of innovation and technological advancement, the Air France Concorde remains one of the greatest aviation stories of the post-Cold War era. It is the only supersonic passenger airline ever designed, and the only one flown with any regularity. Featuring a state-of-the-art design, the Air France Concorde offered very minimal air resistance through its slim fuselage and low-wing monoplane delta wing layout. The pencil-type appearance of the aircraft was a requirement brought about by the high speeds of supersonic flight. This unique design obscured the flight crew’s view below; as such, the nose cone was equipped with a positional assembly, allowing it to be positioned down when taxiing or whenever necessary. Titanium was a main component of the Air France Concorde’s design, enabling the passenger airline to reach speeds of up to Mach 2 and a range of over 4,000 miles. Though it allowed passengers to cross distances around the globe within hours, the Air France Concorde was unfortunately retired due to economic pressures.
