The A-1E Skyraider was a piston-powered attack aircraft built during a time when jet fighters were the new kings of the air. Considered passé in design, the Skyraider almost did not make it to the battlefield during World War II. Nonetheless, this outmoded aircraft proved to be an excellent asset during the war in Southeast Asia, where communists engage in guerilla-style warfare. The United States provided South Vietnam and Thailand with several A-1E units.
