Detailed 1/72 scale assembly model kit of the Consolidated PBY Catalina, a World War II era military flying boat operated by the United States and her allies. Introduced in 1936, the PBY (PB for "Patrol Bomber" and Y for aircrafts manufactured by Consolidated Aircraft) Catalina was manufactured by the Consolidated Aircraft Corporation, a company famous for its line of flying boats. During the Second World War, PBYs were used in a variety of roles that include maritime patrol, anti-submarine warfare, patrol bombing, convoy escorts, search and rescue missions, and cargo transport. PBYs were instrumental in spotting the Japanese fleet during the historic Battle of Midway, in which the U.S. Navy dealt a crushing blow to the Japanese carrier fleet and marked the turning point in the pacific war. Over 4,000 PBYs rolled off production lines, making it the most successful flying boat ever produced. This Airfix 1/72 scale assembly kit features the PBY-5A, the amphibious version of the PBY-5 with two 1200hp R-1830-92 engines. 128 parts.
